Indonesia's Madura island used as Lamborghini's new concept car name

JAKARTA (Xinhua) -- Lamborghini's proposed new hybrid sports car takes its name from an Indonesian island of Madura in East Java province, the Jakarta Globe reported here on Saturday.

The name is a reference to the island's famous bull races. Lamborghini has a tradition of choosing names associated with bulls.

The Lamborghini Madura may become the high-end Italian automaker's first venture into gas-electric hybrids.

"The Madura is a proposal for the first hybrid Lamborghini scheduled for 2016. Making a car more efficient and more nature- friendly doesn't mean it shouldn't be good-looking and fast," Slavche Tanevsky, the Lamborghini Madura designer, told Worldcarfans.com.

In a bid to emphasis the car's width, Lamborghini Madura has slim headlights, curvaceous hood, huge air intakes and sexy.

The front-mounted hybrid power train allowed Tanevsky to shorten the car's rear, detailing it with a maze of intricate lines.

Tanevsky is a student at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. He worked with designers from Lamborghini and Audi as part of the automaker's Raw Materials Project.
